Phoenix Dog Leash Laws
Arizona leash laws help prevent dog bites by making sure that owners don't leave a dog that is a danger to the community at large or off-leash.
Dogs must be on a leash that is no longer than six feet when not on their owner's property. CC8-12 states each dog must be licensed with the city every year for a fee of $16 per fixed dog - higher for unaltered dogs. Dog bites can be reported through Maricopa County Animal Care by calling 602.506.7387.
The leash law does not apply to designated dog parks, dogs under the control of a trainer, or dogs participating in training. Dogs must be under the owner's control even when on a leash, meaning the owner should be able to maintain control of the dog.
Violations of leash laws can result in fines, with escalating penalties for repeat offenses. Please always leash your dog, even in your own front yard - dogs are tame until they aren’t and an at-large dog can potentially result in a $250 fine and a misdemeanor, as well as possible animal/human harm.
